Soul FX is a soulful, funky jazz/R&B quintet, which will liven up any party or occasion. Featuring 5 of the hottest players from both L.A. and Orange Counties, this exciting group features the vintage sounds of saxophone and guitar with a modern jazz/R&B flair. This lively group features the original compositions of Ed Peffer, as well as R&B classics and mainstream jazz. They recorded their first promo-CD, which was released in February of 2001, "Ed Peffer and Express", and plan to go back into the studio in late 2009 and early 2010 to produce their first album of soulful jazz.  They were formerly known as "Express", and "Ed Peffer Group", and have been around since 1998 with various personnel changes.

Soul FX has been entertaining audiences for years, and can provide a great ambience of contemporary and traditional jazz, mixed in with original compositions. They have performed for functions for the Anaheim White House, Anaheim Convention Center, the PYHA Wine and Jazz Festival, Irvine Spectrum Center, San Diego State University, California State University at Los Angeles, UCLA, Irvine Valley College, MCI, St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Orange County Fairgrounds, and the National Fasteners Association, as well as for several private parties.

Ed Peffer is a professional saxophonist, clarinetist, flautist, composer, and maintains a busy schedule performing for shows, private parties, clubs, and weddings, plus teaching the jazz ensemble at Irvine Valley College. Rene Lopez is a professional guitarist, and performs regularly with LA Lyon and various other groups.  Joe Partise is an accomplished pianist and composer in Orange County, and performs regularly throughout the southern California area.  Completing the group are bassist Maurilio Mina and drummer Alton Corotan, who both have extensive performing credits in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Great News!  Soul FX is going into the studio in December of 2009 to work on a new demo CD, including all new originals by Ed Peffer, including "Daily Grind", a tribute to our dear friend and late drummer Mike Alarcon, who we lost in June of 2009 (one day before one of our gigs at the St. Irenaeus Church fiesta, in Cypress, CA.  Also, Ed will be recording a new song featuring the EWI 4000s (an electronic wind instrument - kind of a cross between a sax and a synthesizer).   Ed hopes to complete his first album of all original soulful jazz tunes by spring of 2010.  His new demo CD (4 or 5 songs) will be available by end of December or January of 2010.
